Join us for a fascinating afternoon of upcycled weaving with artist Kelsey Merreck Wagner

At this lunch-and-learn (see details below to order lunch), Kelsey will discuss her creative process, community engagement, and the sustainable message behind her work.  She will also share about her recent exhibits and residencies in Thailand and Malaysia, as well as two co-curated projects she worked on as part of her Ph.D. dissertation.  She will also bring examples of her work to share and a rigid heddle loom for a brief demonstration of her practice.

Wagner is always on the lookout for recycled materials: if you have plastic bags, wires, or old clothes, please bring them to the lunch-and-learn!

    About the Artist:

Kelsey Merreck Wagner is a textile artist, visual anthropologist, and environmental activist who recently relocated to Winston-Salem and joined AAWS.  She makes weavings entirely from recycled materials she collects through community contributions and ecological clean-ups, incorporating post-consumer waste such as plastic bags, technology cords, product wrappers and packaging, old clothes, housewares, holiday decorations, and more into the weft of her textiles.

Tap into your own unique artistic voice through experimentation and curiosity in this mixed media workshop.

Come spend the afternoon creating, as Amy Bronson guides with prompts and short demos on how to create richly layered abstract paintings in mixed media. In this workshop, we will splatter, paint, collage, and play our way through the afternoon while fostering curiosity, exploration, and experimentation.   The focus will not be to finish a painting - rather, it will be to learn to create engaging and unique layers that will reflect your own artistic voice.  This class is for anyone, regardless of experience level!  All you need to bring is a playful, curious attitude and leave all illusions of perfection at the door!

Amy will generously bring high-quality, artist-grade materials like Liquitex paint, Inktense pencils, Stabilo Woodies, Neocolor 2 crayons, and hand-painted collage papers. The instructor will also provide prepared substrates.  A $20 materials fee is included in the registration and will cover everything you need.

This class is offered at a drastically reduced price due to the generous funding provided by the Shallow Ford Foundation.

    About the Instructor:

Amy Bronson is a mixed-media and abstract artist in Winston-Salem. She has been painting intuitive, abstract expressionistic art for 20 years. Amy is a member of the Carolina Painters Guild, Associated Artists of WS, and The Artfolios Collective.  She teaches multiple workshops at her studio for both beginner and advanced artists interested in loosening up their style and finding joy in their creative process.

    About the Instructor:

Viktoria K. Majestic is a classically trained Hungarian American artist, based in North Carolina. Her two passions are painting and teaching people how to paint. She studied art both in Europe and the United States, with her work featured in collections across the US and abroad. Influenced by masters like Sorolla, Sargent, Levitan, and some contemporary artists, her art reflects the classical techniques. Growing up in a small European town, Viktoria developed a deep love for nature, art and human connections. For over a decade, she has been helping hundreds of students, by generously passing on her knowledge.

This workshop is brought to you with drastically reduced fees thanks to the generosity of the Shallow Ford Foundation.
