The Juror

Stephen Phillips, Curator, Phillips Collection, Washington, DC. Mr. Phillips has worked at the Phillips Collection since receiving his degree in museum studies and art history from George Washington University in 1992. He received his BA in art from Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Phillips recently lectured on "Collecting Considered" and "Curator's Perspective on Degas to Matisse" and "Fruit, Flowers, and Familiar Objects." He has written numerous other articles for publication in art books, exhibition catalogues and magazines. Phillips' recent curated exhibits are "Margaret Bourke-White: the Poetry of Forms" ('03), "Edward Weston and Modernism" ('02), and "A Tribute to Morris Graves" ('01). This is Mr. Phillips' second visit to Winston-Salem. In May, 1998, he was the juror for the Southeastern Spectrum, a regional juried art exhibit sponsored by Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. Since then, he has judged nine national exhibitions.
