Juried Membership is for those artists working at an advanced or professional level.
To apply for Juried Membership, artists are to submit eight to ten professional quality images of their work either on a CD or by slides, labeled and stored in a slide sleeve. If an artist wishes to be juried in more than one medium, a separate set of images must be submitted. Images should be accompanied by the application form, a resume that lists educational experience, juried exhibitions, museum shows and gallery representation. Reviews and publications are welcome. In order for an applicant to be considered for Juried Membership, the artist must have had works accepted into at least two national juried competitions, only one of which may be a show sponsored by AAWS.
All work submitted is to have been created independently of an instructor. Work must have been completed within the last five years. The panel gives preference to a body of work that demonstrates the consistency of a well-developed personal style. Ideally, all candidates will submit work that displays a distinct purpose and intent while reflecting the current style of the artist. The panel members will consider the following criteria when applicable; color, draftsmanship, technique, consistency of quality, originality, and legibility of images.
Juried Members may exhibit in Juried Member Shows in the media in which they have been accepted. Juried members may exhibit in any medium in All Member Shows.
Juried Members who have let their membership lapse may rejoin as Juried Members. The renewing artist will not be rejuried. Artists should, however, submit a reapplication form along with images of recent work and an updated biography and artist statement.
Media categories are: Painting & Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Mixed Media, Sculpture and Other.
Artists interested in Juried Membership should contact the AAWS office for full guidelines and an application form.
